MDC leadership and activists are being targeted. 12 Deaths, 78 gun wound victims, 5 MPs arrested, 9 Councilors arrested, 48 councilors and MPs in hiding and total of 1097 arrested members of the party
MDC Youth Assembly leaders Chairman Happymore Chidziva, his Secretary General Lovemore Chinoputsa and their entire Management Committee have had to seek safety from the wrath of the hit squads.
Many grassroots activists have been picked and tortured. ZANU PF seems to be planning a total annihilation of the MDC by eliminating all its key leaders using state machinery.
In 23/01/19 ZANU PF have stormed the house of our MDC Youth leader searching for him. They beat everyone in the house, children included, and firing bullets!
On Tuesday 22 January 2019, people were indiscriminately attacked in the central business district, Glen Norah and Ruwa, an artist who released an anti-violence song was also brutalized and left for dead.
Arrests of the innocent people of Zimbabwe continues particularly known MDC activists, Members of Parliament, councilors , brutality is intensifying and individuals who have raised their voices against violence are being targeted.
The International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) expresses great concern about recent events in Zembabwe and the continuing violation of human rights against IUSY member organization MDC-T and its mother party MDC.
We, Young socialists of IUSY stand with our Member Organization MDC-T of Zembabwe and its mother Party MDC in their fight against violation and oppression perpetrated by ZANU PF.
IUSY calls for the immediate release of all MDC prisoners who were detained in violation of low.
As young socialists; we call all parties in Zembabwe to sit together and use dialogue instead of confrontation, we aspire, that MDC and ZANU PF can focus into work together for all Zimbabweans.

IUSY is alarmed with the Philippine government’s latest plan to make nine to twelve year old children criminally liable. This move adds to the government’s long list of policies that turn on the most vulnerable members of society, including a killing spree that has targeted the poor.
Jailing children never made a community safe. Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte has pushed for the bill in several of his speeches, claiming that criminal syndicates have used children as pawns in their crimes. IUSY believes that this bill punishes children who are already victimized by poor circumstances. The police even admitted that most children in conflict with the law come from poor families!
The Philippine government is eroding its own credibility in the international community by violating treaties it signed to protect children. Nine or twelve years old children are too young to jail.
The bill, which is widely supported by allies of President Duterte, is being deliberated in the Senate and the House of Representatives making it likely to be passed into law soon. We join youth and children’s organizations in the Philippines in calling for the legislature to reject the bill lowering the minimum age of criminal responsibility. We call on the international community to urge the Philippine government to stay true to their international obligations and drop the dangerous bill. #JailNoChildren #Not9Not12
IUSY reitera su preocupación por situación actual de Venezuela
La Unión Internacional de Juventudes Socialistas (IUSY por sus siglas en inglés), manifiesta gran preocupación por los últimos acontecimientos en Venezuela, donde la confrontación, el desconocimiento y el odio auspiciado desde el Gobierno de Maduro mantienen al pueblo en una constante zozobra, donde los grandes problemas producto de la crisis económica, política y social se auspician constantemente.
Cómo jóvenes socialistas; condenamos la violación de Derechos Humanos, la reprensión y el discurso de odio que mantienen los principales representantes del gobierno de Nicolas Maduro.
Aspiramos, que los sectores de la oposición democrática puedan reconciliarse y establecer los mecanismos democráticos para buscar soluciones al grave problema que enfrentan.
Rechazamos las últimas decisiones de la Sala Constitucional del Tribunal Supremo de Justicia contra el poder legislativo, donde con esta decisión se evidencia el espíritu del desconocimiento institucional.
De igual manera, nos solidarizamos con los venezolanos que están siendo víctima de la xenofobia y hacemos un llamado al gobierno del Ecuador a frenar estos actos que atentan contra la integración y solidaridad de los pueblos.
El 23 de Enero, día histórico en Venezuela, los Venezolanos deben protestar en el marco del civismo y pacíficamente.

IUSY reiterates its concern about the current situation in Venezuela
The International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) expresses great concern about recent events in Venezuela. The confrontation, ignorance and hatred directed by the Maduro Government keep the people in constant anxiety, where major problems arising from the economic, political and social crisis are constantly relegted.
As young socialists; we condemn the violation of Human Rights, the repression and the hate speech held by the main representatives of the government of Nicolas Maduro.
We aspire, that the sectors of the democratic opposition can focus on work together and establish democratic mechanisms to find solutions to the serious problem they face.
We reject the last decisions of the Constitutional Chamber of the Supreme Court of Justice against the legislative power, which evidence the institutional ignorance from the government.
Furthermore we sympathize with venezuelans who are being victimized by xenophobia and we call on the government of Ecuador to stop these acts that threaten the integration and solidarity of the peoples.
On January 23, a historic day in Venezuela, venezuelans must protest within the framework of civility in a peacefully.
Asia Pacific member organizations of the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) approved their annual activity plan and resolutions on democracy and human rights during their committee meeting in December last year.
IUSY members in the region passed the following resolutions unanimously:
A resolution on the minorities, marginalized and displaced peoples in Asia
A resolution resolve the Bhutanese refugee situation in Nepal
A resolution calling for the liberation of Tibet
A resolution supporting people’s call for democratic elections in Thailand
A resolution calling for justice for Nirmala Pant, a young woman murdered and raped in Nepal
The member organizations also identified key skills and knowledge for future training designs including management and leadership, public speaking, campaigning, organizing, networking, international law and other topics.
IUSY-APC will also have human rights campaigns with special focus on regional concerns such as climate change, ending gender inequality and violence against women, and curbing corruption.
The plans include expansion of members to youth organizations in SAARC, student groups in the Philippines, political parties in the SEA region, and women’s organizations in Nepal.
Participating organizations include Akbayan Youth in the Philippines, Nepal Students Union and Nepal Tarun Dal, Youth for a New Society in Burma, Young Progressives for Social Democracy in Thailand, Tibetan Youth Congress, Youth Organization of Bhutan, and Pergerakan Indonesia.
Some days ago, the Hungarian Parliament passed two new laws with unacceptable content and on a non-transparent, anti-democratically way, with even not respecting the Standing Orders of the National Assembly.
The biggest pro-European opposition party, the Hungarian Socialist Party (MSZP) and the Hungarian opposition was trying to stop the Parliament’s vote on the amendments to the Labour Law at all costs. The first attempt was already made on Monday when opposition MPs handed in almost 3000 draft amendments to the agenda as obstruction, but in the end, the Parliament voted in bulk about the amendments of the opposition. On Wednesday, the opposition MPs lined up at the stairs leading up to the Speaker’s podium in order to block the session from commencing.
Despite the fact that no real consultation procedure or parliamentary debate were allowed, the Fidesz-majority of the Parliament adopted amendments to the Labour Law, criticised by trade unions and Hungarian people as a ‘slave law’. The new law will allow employers to ask for up to 400 hours of overtime work per year based on ‘individual agreements’ with employees, which agreements override even the collective agreements made with trade unions. It is also shameful that the new legislation leaves the 48 hours/week work limit unchanged but raises the overtime banking period to 3 years from 1 year. In practice, it will be possible for an employer to pay the employee for overtimes in one sum after 3 years.
According to the other law, also passed by the National Assembly on the same day, the Hungarian government will set up new administrative courts overseen by the justice minister which is a clear and not-hided blow to Hungarian judicial independence. The courts will deal with politically sensitive lawsuits about government business that are currently covered in the general legal system. The justice minister will oversee the budgets of the new courts and will have big powers in appointing the judges.
We, Young Socialists in Europe and all over the world stand with the Hungarian people, with our Member Organisation Societas and all those fighting the erosion of democracy in their fight against the Hungarian Government which is building a new autocracy in Europe with destroying judicial independence and the rule of law. We believe in fair law-making procedures and in real protection of workers’ rights. We also believe in fair share of workload and we stand strong against the exploitation of workers. Though, we do not believe in ‘voluntary overtime’, where employees are vulnerable to the whims of employers. As socialists, we will always condemn these attacks on workers’ rights by the anti-worker, pro-corporate and anti-rule of law Orban’s government.
