IUSY AFRICAN CAPACITY BUILDING
IUSY Political School: Learn and Share!
18th-22nd February 2015 – Cape Town
In this context IUSY is now bringing to Sub-saharan Africa the youth capacity building project; IUSY Political School: Learn and Share! And we are happy to invite you to the third action of this project that will take place in South Africa with the support the Labour Party UK.

Each organization can send up to two participants. Please note that this activity is not specifically addressed to the leadership of the organization and that the overall group we will also ensure gender balance.

As young Socialists and Social Democrats, we believe in Freedom, Equality and Justice for all. Therefore, we believe that the threat represented by extremism and the brutality of IS- Islamic State (Daash) is an imminent danger to the world and the human values. Furthermore, it is a threat to diversity and pluralism in the Middle East throughout the brutal war waged by the terrorism against groups as Kurds (especially Yazidis) Christians and Shiites.
We assure our absolute support to the valiant Kurdish Peshmerga forces, which are fighting a war on behalf of the whole world. They have shown that they play a leading role to confront extremism, criminality and brutality practiced by the terrorist group IS.
The struggle for peace, democracy and freedom continues. The last weeks have shown that democratic forces can and will prevail, when the Kurdish forces managed to rescue Shangal and its people from the hand of IS.
The AUSY-IUSY international conference will be a high-profile platform for moderate political organizations, progressive youth leaders, and policy experts from Middle East, North Africa and the whole world in order to raise a call for peace and democracy.

We are now launching this open call to our Member Organizations in case you would like to participate in the Study Visit. Please note however, that IUSY will only be able to cover costs for accommodation, meals and transports in the countries during the study visit.
The visit is programmed for 9-13 January 2014; arrival foresee for Friday 9th (since we will start early on Saturday the 10th) and departures foreseen on Tuesday 13 January.

The aim of the study visit is to learn more about the current situation and violations of Human Rights in the country with a special focus to the Curuguaty case.
The main focus of the committee was ”How to Build an Equal World- A Youth Perspective”. Interesting discussions in working groups took place about the political situation in every country, the internal situation in the member organizations, good experiences in the struggle against inequality and the next electoral challenges in every country.
The University on Youth and Development is a space aim at taking affirmative action in Global Youth Cooperation. It is jointly organised by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe, the Spanish Government (INJUVE), the European Youth Forum (YFJ), the Spanish Youth Council (CJE) and other international youth organisations. Since its first edition in 2000, the University takes place once a year bringing together representatives of youth organisations and youth movements from all over the world who gather in the CEULAJ (Euro-Latin-American Youth Centre) to discuss, train and be trained as well as to take political action around the main issues on the global agenda.
The topic of this year’s edition was “Youth Opportunities” and IUSY/YES participated in the programme with a training activity titled: “Advocating our space in the post-2015 agenda: our future, our say” Following the 2012 Summit Rio+20 and the new focus on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) IUSY and YES believe that our organizations should play a greater role in following up the Post-2015 agenda. While we consider sustainability goals and a higher focus on environmental protection as well as climate change to be crucial and essential for human well being, our organizations should also be strong and advocate in this process that this should not lead to reduced, lowered or fading efforts to eradicate poverty completely.
The group developed a deeper understanding on youth advocacy in the global agenda and were provided with tools and practices to be more influential when putting forward their political demands. At the same time – in the context of the University and in connection to other partner organizations – the group developed a better understanding of their belonging to a wider global youth movement, beyond their political affiliation. They also developed a proposal for a global campaign in the framework of the post-2015 agenda.
This activity was jointly organized by the Young European Socialists (YES) and the International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) with the support of the Progressive Alliance (PA)
