Elections in Turkey: In Solidarity with HDP- Peoples Democratic Party

IUSY strongly condemns the terrorist attacks against the leftish pro-Kurdish Party HDP (Peoples Democratic Party) in different parts of Turkey and Kurdistan.

Turkey is going for national elections tomorrow, the 7th of June. The situation has escalated and got more intense the last weeks before the elections. Several terrorist attacks against HDP have taken place with several casualties and hundreds injured as consequence of the attacks.

IUSY believe that the only way forward for a true democratic Turkey is a recognition of all peoples right regardless of ethnicity and religion. Freedom, equality and social justice must always be the guiding stars. We stand in solidarity with all democratic and peace seeking forces.

Rise Up For Equality- March 8

The International Women‘s Rights Day on March 8 is an important reminder of the struggle for gender equality. It started with a mass protest in New York, 1857. Later Clara Zetkin demanded the introduction of an International Women‘s Day. Socialist feminists then started to engage protests all over the world. Demanding equal rights and an end to their exploitation as workers.

March 8 became a symbol for global resistance of women struggling every day for their human rights, equality, recognition and respect. It sets in the context of an oppressive world that hits women even worse while a few profit.

The fight for gender equality needs to continue as it still has not reached its goals. Whether we look at equal pay, women suffering gender-based violence, sexism or the constant attacks on abortion rights.

On March 8 we celebrate everything that has been achieved. And with standing together we will achieve even more! This toolkit is made for all of our member organizations to give inspiration for engaging in the activities of this important day.

No socialism without feminism!

Invitation To the IUSY World Council 2015- An Equal World Is Possible

Dear Comrades,

We have the pleasure of inviting you to the forthcoming:

IUSY WORLD COUNCIL 2015

– An Equal World Is Possible

Yerevan, Armenia – 7th May to 10th May 2015

“Peace is something more than the absence of war, although some nations would be thankful for that alone today. A durable and equitable peace system requires equal development opportunities for all nations.”

    – Willy Brandt

2015 is an important year for the future of international development. The UN Special Summit on Sustainable Development, the UN Climate Change Conference, and the European Year for Development are just a few landmarks that will outline the work of the international community on the struggle for peace, equality and sustainable development in the upcoming years.

It is also the time for us to discuss together the challenges of today and tomorrow in order to propose our solutions for a more equal and fair world. Together we will make an equal world for all possible!

The IUSY Council determines the policy of IUSY between the Congresses and controls the activities of the presidium and discusses the financial report. Furthermore, it ensures implementation within the framework of the Declaration of Principle and the Statutes. It controls the activities of the presidium and discusses the financial report.

We are looking forward to meeting you all again to enjoy both: fun and politics. Our hosting organization, AYF in Armenia, is happy to welcome you all in Yerevan.

Please find attached the technical information for the IUSY World Council. Note that we urge all member organisations to register before 10th of March.

We look forward to seeing you in Armenia for a fruitful and inspiring World Council!

In Solidarity,

Felipe Jeldres                                                     Evin Incir

Diana Rastegar, New In The IUSY TEAM

Welcome to Diana Rastegar as new Project Manager. Diana will mainly work with IUSY‘s Global Project, which is supported by the Swedish Olof Palme International Center Foundation. Below you can find out more about Diana.

————–

My name is Diana Rastegar and I’m the new project manager of IUSY. I’m 28 years old, swedish, with origin from Iran and now living in Vienna.

Growing up I was aware of the social and economic inequalities that exists in the world. This awareness made me, at the age of 13, want to become a part of the Swedish Social Democratic Youth League, SSU, so that we together could achieve a better and more equal world.

Since I’m an upper secondary school teacher in social studies and religion, education and womens rights are issues to which I am personally very committed.
