We’re very proud and pleased to extend to all of you the invitation to host the IUSY Council 2022. This is the most important event between the IUSY Congresses and a great moment for our Member Organisations from all over the world to gather and discuss the future of our organisation and our generation.


We strongly feel that the uncertain times we are currently living in, from the COVID-19 pandemic to the growing inequalities, call for common actions in the face of the challenges we are bound to face ahead. For this reason, the 2022 IUSY World Council is of vital importance.


This year, exceptionally, we will also mark the World Environment Day on the last day of our Council (the 5th June 2022). With such, we aim to deliver a strong message when it comes to the present generation’s responsibility when it comes to climate action.

Este es el evento más importante entre los Congresos de la IUSY y un gran momento para que nuestras Organizaciones Miembros de todo el mundo se reúnan y debatan sobre futuro de nuestra organización y nuestra generación.


Sentimos fuertemente que los tiempos de incertidumbre que vivimos, desde la pandemia del COVID-19 hasta las crecientes desigualdades, exigen acciones comunes ante los desafíos que estamos destinados a afrontar en el futuro. Por esta razón, el Consejo Mundial de la IUSY 2022 es de vital importancia.


Este año, excepcionalmente, también conmemoraremos el Día Mundial del Medio Ambiente en el último día de nuestro Consejo (el 5 de junio de 2022). Con esto, nuestro objetivo es transmitir un mensaje contundente en lo que respecta a la responsabilidad de las generaciones actuales en lo que respecta a la acción climática.

IUSY Statement about Chile’s Presidential election

Desde IUSY hemos seguido con atención los hechos políticos en Chile, desde la revuelta de octubre del 2019 con alarmantes violaciones a los derechos humanos, hasta la puesta en marcha de la Convención Constitucional para elaborar una nueva Constitución en paridad y con participación de pueblos originarios. Hoy las conquistas alcanzadas por el pueblo de Chile enfrentan un debacle que definirá su futuro democrático y la posibilidad de dar respuesta efectiva a las necesidades que aquejan a su población.

En este sentido, nos subimos al árbol de la esperanza y manifestamos nuestro apoyo a la candidatura de Gabriel Boric, por ser un joven progresista que contribuirá al devenir democrático en el país latinoamericano.

Miramos con esperanza el proceso electoral que vivirán, con la certeza de que se avanzará en democracia, con respeto a los derechos humanos y en defensa de los más desposeídos.

From IUSY we have closely followed the political events in Chile, from the October 2019 revolt with an alarming situation of human rights violations, to the launch of the Constitutional Convention to draft a new Constitution in parity and with the participation of the native peoples. Today the conquests achieved by the people of Chile face a debacle that will define their democratic future and the possibility of giving an effective response to the needs that afflict the country.

Therefore, we are hopeful and express our support for the candidacy of Gabriel Boric, as he is a young progressive man who will contribute to the democratic future in the Latin American country.

We are attentive to the electoral process that they will go through, with the certainty that democracy will advance, with respect for human rights and in defense of the most deprived.

IUSY’S Student Working Group Meeting 2021

Outline

The Student Working Group 2021 will bring together young activists of IUSY member organisations from all 7 regions, online. The aim of the meeting is to learn on the implications of crisis situations on students rights, forms of education and enhance student international solidarity. The Covid-19 pandemic has not only affected student rights and education but the work of the IUSY student working group causing 1 year of inactivity for the working group. The meeting will offer a platform to discuss how the situation has affected student life in the regions, give space to engage in a dialogue on common struggles and obstacles, and work together to come up with ideas for how we can make the Student working Group in IUSY active again.

Participant’s Profile

Please note that the event must be gender-balanced and therefore the selection criteria will follow this premise in order to ensure such balance. Both the IUSY statues and the Global Project require gender balance.

Participants must be able to attend the entire programme of the seminar and should be interested in continuing being active in the working group after the seminar. This is due so that we can get the working group back on track according to the IUSY activity plan for 2022 and continue the struggle for student rights everywhere in the world.
No former experience is required but it is preferable that participnats are interested in students issues and human rights.

All participants must be aged 18-35 years old, with no exceptions.

Afghanistan – We stand in solidarity

Dear Member Organisations,

Dear friends, 

International Union of Socialist Youth (IUSY) invites you to take part in the online event titled “Afghanistan – We stand in solidarity”.  The event will take place online on the 23 of November 2021 at 18:30PM CET (via Zoom platform). 

During the event, we would like to discuss the current situation in Afghanistan with the focus on women and children and other minority groups (for example, queer community) with invited speakers. We envision to conclude the discussion on how we as global community can support and what are the actual needs and expectations from the international community by engaging in group work and discussion. 

Flow of the event

The event will consist of two parts: panel discussion with speakers and groups work, sharing and exchange with the participants.

We will send the information on the speakers and facilitators as soon as we have all the confirmations.

IUSY is looking for an employee for its Secretariat based in Vienna (Austria). 

As an employee of IUSY you are engaged in all our activities and will get very broad and intercultural coordination and management experience. You will also get a unique chance to study the world from a political and social perspective. 

IUSY Secretariat is a small team consisting of the Secretary-General who leads the work of the office and two Project Managers. The job is full-time, which might include frequent travel and work during activities that take place during the weekend or in the evenings. 

The Secretariat is located in Vienna, Austria and normally it is required that you are ready to move here.

In cooperation with the Secretary-General and the rest of the Secretariat, the employee assists in the management, preparation, and implementation of seminars, statutory meetings, study visits as well as other political initiatives. 

The employee will be assisting project managers in preparing funding applications, reporting activities, and assisting in coordination. 

In addition to the previously mentioned tasks, the employee will assist in the daily running of the Secretariat, such as answering emails and phones, updating the website and other administrative tasks that support the running of the office. 

Responsibilities: 

  • Assisting project manager in the assigned project by maintaining the delivery of appropriate technical, operational, financial and administrative outputs,
  • Assisting the coordination of the activities within the project,
  • Assisting in preparation of project funding and reports 
  • Assisting in office administration (emails, phone calls, updating various documents etc.)
  • Assuming responsibilities in line with the office (Secretary General, Project Manager)

Conditions

IUSY offers a fixed-term contract for six months, (38,5 hours/week) that complies with the Austrian labour legislation pay scale grouping. IUSY operates a 14-month salary system. The salary is 2.500€ per month before taxation. 

The candidate should have a work permit for Austria or EU citizenship.

Conferencia Híbrida de Liderazgo del Comité Americano 2021

Estimados/as compañeros/as, 

Estamos contentos/as y orgullosos/as de invitarles al Comité Americano 2021, en esta oportunidad tendremos el evento en un formato hibrido, en razón de las dificultades que aun enfrentamos para movilizarnos en medio de la pandemia del COVID-19, el comité regional es el evento que reúne los liderazgos juveniles de las organizaciones miembros e invitadas del continente americano, siendo el evento más importante de IUSY en América, donde el intercambio y cooperación entre las organizaciones nos permitirán plantearnos los retos y desafíos para el futuro. 

Los objetivos del comité americano de IUSY, estará en conocer, desde la participación de nuestras organizaciones miembros, las situaciones actuales que se producen en cada uno de los países de la región, las agendas de nuestras organizaciones, los procesos y desafíos, donde juntos podremos definir propuestas y atender las luchas que nuestros pueblos asumen por la democracia, la igualdad, la justicia y la libertad. 

El comité contará con nuestra organización miembro de México (Juventudes de Izquierda JIZ) como anfitriones del evento.

Visados

La Secretaría de IUSY apoyará las solicitudes de visa para el evento. Si necesita una visa, envíe una copia de su pasaporte a iusy@iusy.org tan pronto como sea posible, por lo que secretaría puede preparar una carta de invitación y apoyar este proceso con nuestra organización miembro de México (Juventudes de Izquierda).

Seguro De Viaje

Tengan en cuenta que IUSY no se hará responsable de ningún costo de salud durante los días del evento. Recomendamos que organicen un seguro de viaje antes de salir de su país.

Reembolso de Viaje

El Proyecto Global será capaz de cubrir una cantidad fija por delegación (ver la tabla adjunta).Recomendamos encarecidamente que todas las organizaciones reserven sus vuelos inmediatamente por tal de conseguir el mejor precio posible.

Solo clase turista será reembolsada. De acuerdo con las normas de IUSY, vuelos de businessy primera clase no serán considerados para el reembolso.

Tengan en cuenta que IUSY solo puede reembolsar el coste de los viajes que sean certificados con los documentos originales.

  • Por favor tengan en cuenta que solo a los participantes que atiendan a un mínimo del 80% de la conferencia se les ofrecerá reembolso.

  • Por favor, tenga en cuenta que sólo las Organizaciones sin cuotas de membresía pendientes tienen derecho a reembolso de viaje.Para poder recibir reembolso de viaje, por lo tanto, debe pagar sus cuotas de membresía. Para saber cuánto su deuda pendiente se ponga en contacto con la secretaría de IUSY lo antes posible. IUSY European Committee Meeting 2021

What: European Committee Leadership Conference

Outline 

IUSY European Committee Meeting 2021 will take place virtually on the 25thof October. The meeting will start at 18:00PM CET and last for about 2 hours. 

During the meeting participants will get to know each other, share their organisational and country reports. They will also have the time to share their expectations from the meeting and from the Committee. We will also have group work together focusing on specific topics that are relevant for the Committee. 

What can you expect? 

We will get together for about 2-2,5 hours in an informal and formal settings. 

More details on the programme will come soon and all registered participants will be informed of the technicalities and the content of the meeting. 

The meeting will be held online on the Zoom platform. It will be in English and without any participation fee. 

It is important to remember that our events are safe spaces and that we are mindful and respectful towards each other. 

Who can apply

This activity is aimed towards the leadership of IUSY member organisations from European Committee. 

Participants should:

  • Belong to IUSY member organisation
  • Be aged 18-35
  • Youth leadership of EC organisations
  • 2 participants per organisation. Gender balance is required!

IUSY Global Seminar 2021 21-24 October: Political Youth Participation

Overview

The Global Seminar will gather together IUSY member organisations from all over the world to meet and share challenges young people and youth organisations have been facing since the beginning of the pandemic. The two day seminar will be a space for sharing out realities from different thematic perspectives based on the topic of Political Youth Participation. As previous Global Seminars, we will again have a joint session on the second day with the International Federation of Liberal Youth (IFLRY).
